Who is admitted to IWA?

The organiser describes IWA as a pure trade fair open only to trade visitors from the relevant industries. Separate proof requirements apply to retailers and online shops, wholesalers and distributors, buyers, manufacturers, shooting range operators, security services, suppliers, associations, authorities and educational institutions. Private individuals are not admitted, nor are under-18s, except trainees aged 16 to 18 with a valid training contract in a relevant industry who are accompanied by an adult.

There are no direct sales at the fair; guns, ammunition and bladed weapons in particular may not be sold at stands, and visitors may not carry knives of any kind. The organiser's 2026 closing report cited around 1,050 exhibitors from 49 countries and more than 25,000 trade visitors and media representatives from 121 countries, with the United Kingdom among the strongest visitor countries.

Which segments are relevant beyond firearms?

A large part of the show covers non-firearm categories: outdoor clothing and footwear, bags and cases, optics accessories, cleaning and care products, and survival and bushcraft equipment. For suppliers in these segments, conversations with European retailers and distributors usually involve fewer regulatory steps.

Why do licensing and export controls come first?

Firearms, ammunition and some components and optical products are subject to licensing in the country of dispatch and the country of destination, and the buyer must hold the relevant permits locally. For UK businesses this includes the UK strategic export control regime. A company appearing on the participant list does not mean it can lawfully trade in these goods with you. Check the classification and licence requirements of your products with the competent authorities and a specialist adviser before making an offer.

How should you plan contact for a March fair?

The fair takes place in early March. A first approach between mid-January and early February helps you secure a place in distributors' schedules. In Germany, § 7 UWG requires prior express consent for advertising emails to businesses, so phone, letter or a stand visit is the better route with German participants. Campaign emails go to each company's general address.
